KiwiPure – Whole house water purification system developed by Kiwi entrepreneurs

KiwiPure is the culmination of two bright Kiwi minds, Murray and Warren, getting together and inventing a whole house water filtration system that not only removes sediment, heavy metals, and chemicals like chlorine and its by-products from your incoming household water supply, but also softens the water resulting in clean pure water from every tap in your home!

The invention of a new type of Ionizer meant Kiwipure can offer a solution to hard water issues that is only a fraction of the cost of previous means of softening water. An added bonus is the fact the Kiwipure design requires NO electricity and works without adding chemicals like salt making it environmentaly friendly.

Where did it all begin

Located in Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty, and surrounded by beautiful scenery and sandy beaches, Kiwipure Ltd. is ideally located to focus on cleaning up water to ensure it is safe, suitable and healthy for homes, farming, commerce and industry.
The vision began in 2008 when directors Murray Falloon and Warren East had a desire to provide pure water to consumers at a price that is affordable for the average family home. They observed there were many options for water treatment in the market place but people seemed confused over what was available and what they really needed to ensure their water was clean and healthy.

Over the last decade there has been a growing concern regarding the health hazards of treating water with chlorine. Chlorine is a powerful oxidant and bleaching agent that is effective at killing many organic nasties contained in most town water supplies, but on reaching your home it's no longer required. Chlorine is highly toxic to humans and is known to cause tissue damage on exposure to even minute quantities. Another more worrying factor is the many by-products that are produced when chlorine reacts with organic matter in the water. Many of these are known carcinogens and include chloroform, dioxin and a whole range of trihalomethanes (THM’s) that you really don't want in your home.

It was because of the hazard of chlorine and the many areas where ‘hard’ water causes damage, that Warren and Murray were motivated to provide an economical solution. Their subsequent development of the Kiwipure whole-house system has shown that you do not need to spend a lot of money to assure a supply of healthy clean water into the entire home. This system is now installed in many homes throughout NZ, providing a highly successful total water treatment system for the urban environment at a cost well below other options. A further development has been the provision of larger commercial systems to treat all the water supplying two well known fast food restaurants. Kiwipure replaced the older (‘salty’) ionizers with their new system. The Kiwipure system requires minimal maintenance with the ionizer expected to give at least 20 years service. Kiwipure hope to obtain approval to publish a testimonial from the fast food chain in the near future.

Continuing development

Kiwipure are researching and developing new systems for the horticulture and the farming industry with experiments currently being conducted in Te Puke, Katikati and Papakura. These new systems are designed to remove iron and other contaminants from deep bore water that is applied to Kiwifruit orchards. The water is applied to the plants for irrigation in summer and also to prevent frost damage during cold snaps. The iron stains the fruit, ruining it for export and it also blocks the spray jets, so a solution to the problem means considerable cost saving to the horticulture industry.

Exporting to Australia and beyond

Trials have begun with an aim of exporting the KiwiPure system to major cities in Australia. The system has already proved to be valuable to Brisbane residents.

NSF certification and warranties

We recommend you change the sediment filter yearly and the Carbon/ KDF filter every two years. All filters have been pressure tested and come with NSF certification standard No. 42 and 24 month warranty on the filter housing .
